Let's take a voyage through time and check in on 4 great inventions in the history of timekeeping. It's 1870 and railroad engineer Stanford Fleming 'invents' our current time zones. It's 1922 and Leon Leroy invents the automatic movement in the wrist watch and ends the need for manual winding. He forgets to patent it and the glory goes elsewhere. We remember his innovation by engineering a classic automatic movement with 27 jewels. The exquisite automatic movement is powered by your body's motion so it never needs batteries. The interior workings have over 185 parts assembled by hand. Twenty-seven rubies act to minimize the friction on the gears and rotors so the movement maintains incredible accuracy. We jump ahead to 1939 and a moveable bezel is developed so that pilots can measure elapsed time. The Pacifica has both a moveable bezel and a tachymeter to measure speed and distance making it the perfect sports enthusiast's watch. And in 1970, the ultra reliable quartz watch is first put into production. Time keeping precision is improved by leaps and bounds. The smaller second quartz watch is built right into the band so you can set a second time zone and maintain exact accuracy. Now it's 2008 and Stauer engineers all of these great accomplishments into the Pacifica. This rugged dual movement watch has both an automatic movement with 27 jewels and a quartz movement that can be set to another time zone. The bezel rotates to measure elapsed time and the tachymeter is calibrated to measure speed in miles per hour. The rugged stainless steel case is inspired by a case built for fighter pilots and comes with an aviator style leather band. The antique ocean-blue dial displays day, month, date and the hands are luminous so you can see the time in low light situations. Stauer put 2 years of design work and £31 million worth of Swiss built precision machinery into the making of the Pacifica. It carries a 2-year warranty on both movements and the versatile watch carries a very intelligent price.
